30 alternatives to “I hope this email finds you well”

My friend, Natalie Govender, had a tweet go viral once. It read, “No email has ever found me well.” And yet, so many people still trot out that tired phrase at the beginning of every mail they send.

I get it. You want a polite opening instead of launching straight into the reason for your mail – it’s the email version of asking someone how they are when you bump into them. But it’s so overused that it’s become stale and insincere – which isn’t a good look on anyone.

So in the interests of helping you start your emails off a little better, here are 30 alternatives you can try – you will have to match them to the situation, of course, but that’s what you should be doing every time you communicate with anybody, whether on email or via other means.
